Experts says that fever is a way of body to fight off viruses and bacteria by weakening the germs. That is why sometimes if we have colds a light fever also comes with it. Here are some home remedies you can try when fever attacks you.
1. Monitor your water intake
Water helps you a lot whenever you got fever or any diseases. This is important for the infections to be flashed out of your body through urine or sweat. Two liters of water daily is recommended for adults while for infants offer at least one ounces per hour, 2 ounces per hour for toddlers and 3 ounces per hour for older children.
2. Wear comfortable clothing, rest well and lower the temperature
Proper clothing is needed so that your body can relax and improve air circulation to help you stay cool. While on the other hand, getting enough rest will help the body heal faster by strengthening the immune system. High temperature can make the fever last long and would cause excessive sweating that could lead to dehydration.
3. Take fever-reducing medicines
If the fever is very high, you may purchase an over-the-counter medicine at your nearest drugstore. Some of these medicines are: acetaminophen, ibuprofen and aspirin. Make sure you have no allergy with such medicines else you have to consult an expert. Remember not to give aspirin to children.
4. Take a warm shower or sponge down
Warm bath or shower for about 5-10 minutes can help stimulate sweat that keeps your body cool, soothe sore muscles and decongest sinuses. If ever you don’t have a chance to bathe, you can use sponge to cool down your body temperature. Soak small towels in lukewarm water and dab them on your forehead or under your armpits. This also works the same as bathing.
5. Avoid Smoking and Drinking alcohol
This two are known to reduce the strength of your immune system that will make it harder for you to recover.
If your fever doesn’t go down in 3 days, it is better to consult the doctor for further diagnosis of the cause.
